Malacca Wanita PKR chief Ginie Lim has expressed shock over the move by a former division women's head to leave the party and join Umno.
Lim said former Tangga Batu PKR women's chief Rohani Mahmood's decision and subsequent announcement on Facebook yesterday was regrettable.
"I will investigate the real reason and provide an explanation to PKR's political bureau," said the Machap Jaya assemblyperson in a statement.
Tangga Batu PKR chief Qui Teck yesterday said Rohani had on Jan 26 informed via Whatsapp her decision to quit as the division's women's chief and this was relayed to the state leadership in February.
Lim, however, said she never received any formal resignation letter from Rohani and therefore she remains in her position according to the party's regulation.
She further claimed that Rohani was still present during a Wanita PKR state leadership meeting on May 21, followed by a buka puasa function, and did not raise any issues linked to her resignation.
"Rohani, who previously held the posts of Malacca working secretary, state Srikandi chief and currently also serves as the state women's vice-chief, had always been active in various party programmes and election campaigns," she said.
Meanwhile, Lim said the May 21 meeting had accepted the resignation of Kota Melaka women chief Laila Madon over health reasons.
She added that the posts vacated by Rohani and Laila would be temporarily filled by their respective deputies.
Responding to their resignations, a source from PKR headquarters yesterday told Malaysiakini that they were due to alleged unhappiness with the Malacca PKR leadership.
